Photomontage showing proposed opening road bridge across the River Lee We were appointed to identify and consider the issues associated with constructing a new opening road bridge across the River Lee at Water Street or other suitable location in Cork City
Road, rail, sea and air – we’re involved in all aspects of transportation and public transport planning, design and operational strategies. As part of the global Mott MacDonald Group we’re able to bring the benefits of international best practice to every project, whether we’re providing a complete team working on a major regional transportation project or an individual specialist solving a small localised traffic problem.

View of Dublin light rail vehicleOur wide-ranging role on Dublin's light rail (LUAS) includes design of track, power supply, overhead lines, signalling and carriageway plus junction redesign and traffic analysisWe’ve been associated with some of the most strategic transport developments in Ireland’s recent history. In the rail sector for example, we provided engineering services for the country’s first mass transit system (DART) and later extended the system north and south of Dublin. We have been closely involved in the Dublin LRT (LUAS) from inception to commissioning of the first Lines A, B and C and we’re now assisting the Railway Procurement Agency in extending Line B.

Our latest roads portfolio features the M1 Dundalk Western Bypass PPP Scheme on behalf of Celtic Roads Group, the N18 Ennis Bypass for Clare County Council, the N13/N14 Lifford to Mannorcunningham scheme for Donegal County Council, N25 Kinsale Interchange for Ascon, the N25 Waterford Bypass for Waterford City Council and the N25/N30 New Ross Bypass for Wexford County Council.

We’ve made our mark through various landmark tunnel projects too – most notably in engineering and managing development of the Jack Lynch tunnel under the River Lee in Cork as Cork Corporation’s engineer.

Bridges are a particular strength, our abilities spanning all types – from road and rail bridges to footbridges and canal and river crossings – and the whole spectrum of services, including bridge inspections, feasibility studies, refurbishment programmes and new build projects. Recent and current projects include Halfpenny Bridge refurbishment in Dublin, River Suir cable stayed bridge (N25 Waterford Bypass), Ballynahattin rail bridge (M1 Dundalk Western Bypass) and Cork Docklands River Crossing.

Port developments also feature in our transport repertoire which encompasses cargo handling terminals, ro-ro facilities, multi-purpose berths, wharves, marinas and piers for both industrial and leisure use, along with associated coastal defences, dredging, breakwaters and land reclamation. We also take care of specialist port services ranging from shipyards and dockyards to navigational aids and vessel traffic control systems – as well as all landside infrastructure and transport planning. Our track record includes a range of harbour facilities at Ringaskiddy in County Cork, ongoing developments at Rossaveel Harbour and the Greystones Harbour PPP.
